About Me
I have experience in contemporary, soul, jazz, rnb and blues genres currently singing in the acclaimed Mike King Collective, one of the UK's premier contemporary vocal groups whose captivating performances combine soulful vocals with rich jazz harmonies. Mike's arrangements are amazing, it's such a pleasure to sing in MKC.
MKC has recorded for BBC, performed live on Channel 4,sold out Edinburgh fringe and worked with some of the industries biggest names including Mark Ronson, Florence and the Machine,Lily Allen and Grammy world music artist Angelique Kidjo.
My passion is particularly vocal technique for contemporary music, I studied soul, jazz, gospel vocals at Goldsmiths University and have had experience developing artists/singers as a writer and I am happy to explore and improve your approach to songs, whether your goals are serious or just for fun. I love to do workshops for children and adults as I find they are a great introduction both for me and for those thinking of having private lessons.
Aside from singing and teaching, I am a songwriter. Working in a song writing team I have had songs published with Sony and one song on a platinum selling album for an Xfactor artist, another 'Connected' received an award from the New York based John Lennon writing competition judged by Fergie and Black Eyed Peas (amongst others), and another was released by a dance label within Ministry of Sound with me as the
artist.
I have studied vocal anatomy with BAST and am fascinated by different pedagogies and would like to think I embrace them all but select the best bits! I am constantly learning from other teachers and students.
Each teacher is different so I really recommend finding the right 'match' for you or your child. I like to think of us as a team working together rather than the teacher student dynamic. I highly recommend trying more than one, as my first teacher was very good but we sang aria's and the Classical technique had no bearing on the contemporary repertoire I was singing.
